Devestation Man Brings upon Himself in Goldings Lord of the Flies :: essays research papers
William Golding's Lord of the Flies is a story that has hidden symbolism. It is about a group of British schoolboys fleeing from England during World War 1. Their plane crashes on a deserted tropical island. Once on the island they have to cope with their new ?adult-less? life and make rules to live by. After spending time on the island, the boys begin to struggle for power which leads to several problems. The experience on the island serves as a symbol of life in the outside world and the devastation that man brings upon himself. Setting, specific characters, and symbolism help show this. The setting of the story is an important symbol of the outside world. Certain circumstances that happen on the island coincide what happens in the outside world. The world is in the midst of World War 1. On the island Jack and Ralph have their own war happening. The boys set fire to the island. It was a mistake, but they were enjoying it: ?At the sight of the flames and irresistible course of fire, the boys broke into a shrill, excited laughter.? They were enjoying the fire, though it was causing destruction and even killed an innocent boy. However, they were not much bothered by the thought because it did not involve them directly. They built ?war like? forts, even though there was nothing worth protecting. The island is like a miniature world. Certain circumstances that happen in the world happen on a miniature scale on the island. Specific characters in the story represent people in the outside world. Jack represents a dictator, like Hitler or Mussolini. He controls everything around him and abuses his power. He would take littluns and randomly beat them because he had more power over them. The littluns represented the masses. They would flow towards the leader that seemed the best for them. All they wanted to do was have fun, relax, and hunt. Jack provided all of that. Piggy was the voice of intelligence and reasoning: ?Which is better, law and rescue, or hunting and breaking things up He was the most intelligent person on the island and the rules came from him. Each person?s true identity came out on the island, for better or for worse, and they are all representative of to people in the outside world. The symbolism throughout the entire novel was significant. Jacks mindless hunters never spoke out against their leader.

Aside from the print magazine there is an online one and another Arabic magazine ââ¬Å"Kelmetnaâ⬠. II-Body: 1)à à à à à External environment: a)à à à à à General: From the general environment in the external environment the economic and political dimension are considered to be the most two influential dimensions on the organization. The economic dimension affects a lot of decision in the organization including day to day business especially that the economy in Egypt is unstable. For example when the Egyptian pound was floated and the price of the dollar increased the costs of printing in the magazine increased and the price had to be increased like wise which had a huge effect on the overall organization and customers. Secondly, the effect of political dimension is manifested in the censorship practiced. When, the country is in state of chaos and instability censorship increases. The international dimension doesnââ¬â¢t have a very influential effect because the magazineââ¬â¢s market is mainly Egypt and the online version that aims to target Arabs outside Egypt is new too. There is no worry from the socio-cultural dimension since the maga zine whether content or appearance is highly adaptable to changes in the society. As for the technological dimension, the magazine benefits hugely of course from new developments as long as, its costs is reasonable and affordable by the magazine. For example the editors and designers use Apple computers and special programs for the layout and design of the magazine. b)à à à à à Task : The magazine is considered a category leader since itââ¬â¢s the first English youth targeting magazine in Egypt and till this moment there is no real direct competition. Discuss Berlioz’s Contribution to the Symphony
Discuss Berliozââ¬â¢s contribution to the symphony Berlioz is often overlooked as an influential composer; however the reality is that he was one of the most important due to his developing ideas of how orchestration could be expanded, how symphonic form could be developed and how music would be written in a programmatic style. Above all this, Berlioz was one of the pioneers of the Romantic period, inspiring through his innovation of ideas such as the ââ¬Ëidee fixââ¬â¢ and as some saw it, his disregard for the ââ¬ËViennese Architectural Legacyââ¬â¢ and ââ¬Ërules of compositionââ¬â¢.The ââ¬Ëidee fixââ¬â¢ was Berliozââ¬â¢s most famous creation as it enabled him to take a more narrative approach to his composing. This was important as it contrasted from the strongly structured music that had come before him. Theà idee fixe is used to unify the disparate elements of the symphony in ââ¬ËSymphonie Fantastiqueââ¬â¢. Another talent Berlioz was gifted wit h was the art of orchestration. Although, it was not an advance that was received well at the time, it had an overarching effect of great significance.Berlioz demonstrated his talent in his first symphony, ââ¬ËSymphonie Fantastiqueââ¬â¢. This work was the first of four symphonies that Berlioz composed. ââ¬ËSymphonie Fantastiqueââ¬â¢ was composed in a programmatic format. Berlioz may well have been the first great composer to not be able to play a musical instrument, nor to have shown any musical talent at an early age. But he persevered, and became interested in different ways to use the orchestra and the different combinations of instrumental sounds. In 1844, he wrote a book on orchestrationà which he named, ââ¬Å"Traite de l'Instrumentationâ⬠which is still widely appreciated and used today. Berlioz' advances in this area contributed greatly to the growth and development of the modern symphony orchestra. Berlioz was the first composer to closely associate his sy mphonies with extra musical ââ¬Ëprogrammes'. He described his ââ¬ËSymphonie Fantastiqueââ¬â¢ as an ââ¬Ëopera without words'; with each movement vividly describing a different scene of his feelings, often with extreme changes in mood and feeling. The advance of composing program music is the reason why most people regard Berlioz as a romantic. Having said that, Berliozââ¬â¢s life featured unsuccessful love, dramatic triumphs, and dismal failures, many of the traits most romantics would be associated with. The emotional turmoil of his life is reflected in his music and this is why he was the most innovative symphonist of the early Romantic era, Wagner described his music as ââ¬Ëdevilishly confused musical idiom'. Symphonie Fantastiqueââ¬â¢ was the first that Berlioz wrote in a programmatic style; however ââ¬ËHarold en Italieââ¬â¢ is also another clear example of Berliozââ¬â¢s symphonic program music. To conclude, Berliozââ¬â¢s main contributions to the symphony was his creative innovations in both the introduction of the ââ¬Ëidee fixââ¬â¢ and his advances which contributed greatly to the growth and development of the modern symphony orchestra. It could be argued that a more overarching and significant contribution was the romanticism which he clearly displays in all of his symphonies which paved the way for the later Romantic composers.

Leadership is an abstract idea that accommodates many descriptions
Leadership is an abstract idea that accommodates many descriptions which all seek to harmonize the meaning and definitions that are associated with someone being a leader. In the social sphere, it can be regarded as the way in which some certain individual with desired characteristics like social responsibility take up the helms or control in social domains. This control is aimed at filling a vacuum that exists for the coordination of activities and the making of some crucial decisions for the well being of all. All this is aimed at accomplishment of certain personal or national goals.Mahatma Gandhi is someone who can be regarded as a leader by what he did for his country and the great feats that he achieved during his lifetime. He was born in India (1869- 1948) from not such an influential background but due to his dedication and devotion to his idealism in life, he arose through the ranks to become a national leader that was revered by all people. His political ambition was rekindled after he moved to Africa (South Africa) as an attorney and he saw the rampant abuse of human rights by the Transvaalââ¬â¢s discriminatory government which took him into the limelight as being a tenacious crusader of human rights. His fights and campaigns did not end there in South Africa but the ambition was developed onto a calling which later was culminated into his character. This was an instrumental step that led to development of his system of non violent defiance so as to achieve a common good for all. This worked for him when he returned to his mother country and led his country to independence from the British imperial masters (Fischer 23).Leadership is a venture that can be quite demanding and several traits are required of those that can merit the title of being a leader. On the forefront is sacrifice and a legacy of self denial always putting the interests of others (your subjects) before your own personal ambitions. This should be something that is inbuilt because lear ning it is a hard task that is almost impossible. It does not mean that you throw away your ambition in life and form new ones but rather it dictates that you integrate your ambition with greater ideologies that are expanded to cater for national interests.Synchronization of your interest in life with those of others in life will work best and this will be a key in avoiding conflict. Selflessness is one of the traits that are exhibited by Gandhi. He never took life as complicated but he denied himself luxuries and the good tidings that come with being a nationalistic leader. He led a simple ascetic life that served to make him more appealing to all people both poor and rich or mighty (Fischer 67).Leadership comes with an arduous task of dealing with all kinds of people from different walks of life. This calls for a sober mind and an all inclusive approach to life. All this is controlled by humility which is a requirement of a leader and not a necessity. Humility can guarantee you ac cess and audience with all regardless of their social class.By being a humble person means that you will go out of your way to serve others and not wait to be served. Often most people associate leadership with being a boss over other people but it should be the other way round. In serving others, your leadership skills are enhanced and you get a one on one experience such that many people will regard you high as opposed to serving others and you one person, you will regard others high. This is one trait that made Mahatma Gandhi to stand out from the crowds. He was always out there serving others and more so the poor and those who are regarded as low in the Indian caste system. He even left his own caste and went down to lower caste (that was for predominantly poor) and tried to raise its social status and put it at par with other social castes. This made him a champion of fighting for rights of the poor and the minority.Approach to leadership should be broad minded and not narrow. I t has for a long time been taken that advancing racial, ethnic or even tribal can warrant you to be called a leader. This is the wrong approach to leadership since if you consider a country like US for instance, there are many people coming from different races, and different social backgrounds, their religious believes and faith are also divergent thereby for one to be a leader of such a community or nation, he or she must be nationalistic and not racial or regional in the way to approach issues that are affecting the country. In his lifetime, Gandhi was always striving for peace, harmony and good co existence regardless of ones religious inclinations or beliefs (Fischer 56).It is said that he studied all the major religions of the world (Christianity, Islam and Hinduism) in his quest for searching for truth which would promote national cohesion. When I was in high school, I was very much involved in sports and extra curricula activities. Actually, when I joined college it was on sch olarship emanating from my athletic abilities. I indulged mostly in basketball where I played in the position of a forward. In a basketball game (in all sport for that matter) the ultimate goal is to win trophies and be the best in the sport. For a team to achieve this, all personal ambitions have to be shed for the benefit of the team. All the team members are gifted with different skills and individual talent in most cases can not win games but it is the combined efforts of the team members that win games and trophies.By the mere fact that you made the shortlist, was an indication enough that you were talented and capable of success. I was a forward and was selected as the team captain not that I was the best in the team but I had some characters that fitted a leader. It is often said that it is the people who designate you a leader and not you that designate yourself, therefore the coach had confidence that I could deliver as a captain and help my team win trophies. The best chance that arose for me to exhibit my leadership prowess was during one time in the conference finals where it was do or die to clinch the title. The game started well and proceeded on till the last dying moments when there were five minutes on the buzzer and we were trailing our opponents by five points. In basketball any body can score but that job is better left to the forwards because of their enhanced speed and accuracy.I was good at shooting but there was this guy who was a guard but he was not a regular in the first team. His advantage was that he was very good when it came to three pointers. Someone had to be axed so that this guy could be given a chance to even the scores and win the game for us.In the last time off, I convinced the coach to give that guy my chance so that he could use his prowess in shooting three pointers. The coach at first objected since I was the captain but later had to cave in and that is how we won the trophy because the guy did his thing and we emerged v ictorious in the end.Work citedFischer, L. Analyse how types of assessment are used in lifelong learning Essay
Analyse how types of assessment are used in lifelong learning - Essay Example Another form of assessment is interim assessment which takes place occasionally for a larger period of time. The feedback may be quick but not as immediate as formative assessment. It is a more formal type of assessment and is done using projects, tests and written assignments. In this assessment, the learner is given opportunity to re - demonstrate his/her understanding once the feedback is given. Marketing of Real Estate in CSU San Marcos Essay - 143
Marketing of Real Estate in CSU San Marcos - Essay Example Hence, real estate investors require having adequate knowledge before taking the action of investing. Before investing in real estate, firstly, it is important to consider the number of residents residing in the intended area of investments either in terms of their race or their age brackets. For example, CSU San Marcos is highly populated by white people that constitute 64.2 percent of the inhabitant and least populated by American Indians representing 0.8 percent. Therefore, it is recommendable for real estate investors to invest where there is high population of residents since there is high demand for residential areas such as houses, retail shops due to high turnover of people search for secondary and primary goods, social amenities such as school and health centers, service offering businesses such as hotels and lodges and financial institutions such as banks. Secondly, they need to know their targeted age groups before investing as ages of the population will define their tastes and preferences in terms of real estate fashions, productiveness in terms of income that determine s their state of affordability to rent or buy the real estate and also their entertainment as entertainment real estate will be more profitable in an area populated by a higher number of youth (Peà §ski 2010). An increase in the number of residents has a direct effect on increasing the number of households from a rise in demand for the settlement and business buildings for business people. Consequently, as the population increases, the demand for goods and services increases an increase in manufacturing and processing industries hence generally resulting in a rise in the number of households. Additionally, as demand increase and availability of real estates remains constant, the household or home value rises.
